Insurance Roof Claim Dothan AL
Insurance roof claim Dothan AL in plain terms: you report the storm damage to your insurer, the insurer's adjuster inspects and decides what your policy pays, and a roofer fixes the roof once you and your insurer agree.
MAC Construction's part: a free inspection, dated photos, and a written scope and estimate you can share with your insurer. If you ask, we can be on site when the adjuster comes. We never negotiate your claim; Alabama law doesn't allow a residential roofer to (Ala. Code §8-36-2).

Claim-Day Planner for a Storm Damage Insurance Claim
Every storm damage insurance claim follows the same order. Pick the damage and storm date for a dated checklist of who does what. Dates are suggested targets, not legal deadlines.
- DAY 0YouGet safe, then photograph from the ground
Don't climb up. Photograph dented gutters, vents and cars.
- DAY 1YouReport the claim to your insurer
- DAY 2MACFree inspection: dated photos and a written scope
You share it with your insurer.
- SET BY INSURERInsurerAdjuster inspection, then a written decision
Repairs start once you and your insurer agree.
Hail bruises are often only visible up close. Let a roofer check before you assume there's no damage.
Protect the Roof Now, and Keep Every Receipt
The Alabama Department of Insurance says to document damage before cleanup, then stop further damage. Policies call this mitigation, and insurance typically reimburses temporary repairs like covering a roof hole if the loss is covered (ALDOI).
- Photos first: every room with water, then the roof from the ground.
- Stop the water: an emergency tarp, with the receipt saved.
- Hold big permanent repairs until the adjuster sees it (Triple-I).

A tarp job can be billed fairly, but it can't lock you into the full repair (ALDOI, AG and HBLB alert).
Insurance Roof Claim Dothan AL Paperwork: What We Document
Your adjuster decides the claim; good evidence makes the visit simpler. Triple-I suggests photos of the damage and written bids from licensed contractors with materials and prices listed line by line (Triple-I). That's what a free MAC roof inspection produces.
What a Free Storm Inspection for an Insurance Roof Claim Dothan AL Includes
We walk every slope, check flashing, vents and gutters, and check the attic when a leak points there. You decide who sees the paperwork.
DATED| Item | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Dated photos | Each slope, plus close-ups of hail hits, lifted shingles and flashing |
| Damage list | What we found and where, in plain words |
| Line-item estimate | Materials, quantities and labor for repair or replacement |
| Notes | Older wear the storm didn't cause, so nothing is overstated |
The Adjuster Inspection: Who Speaks for What
After you report damage, your insurer sends a claims adjuster at no cost to you, and the adjuster may want to review estimates before repairs (ALDOI). The adjuster works for the insurer.
Alabama law says a residential roofer "shall not represent or negotiate" for a homeowner on an insurance claim (§8-36-2(c); ALDOI alert). Here's how we stay in our lane.
What MAC does, if you ask
- Be on site during the adjuster inspection
- Point out the damage in our dated photos
- Answer roofing questions
What MAC never does
- Speak for you or argue your claim
- Negotiate scope or payment
- Promise what your policy will pay
Does Insurance Cover Roof Replacement? Try the Sorter
Guess where each item usually lands, then see why. Standard policies cover perils such as hail and hurricanes, not routine wear and tear (Triple-I). Your policy decides.

When Does Insurance Cover Roof Replacement Instead of Repair?
It depends on how much of the roof the storm damaged and on your policy. An older roof may be paid at actual cash value (minus depreciation) instead of replacement cost (ALDOI). If your insurer has flagged your roof's age, see roof too old for insurance.
Repair or Replace Once You and Your Insurer Agree

When the decision is in writing, we give you a binding written quote. The price on the quote is the price on the invoice. Then we repair or replace the roof, backed by our 5-year written workmanship warranty.
If hidden damage turns up, such as soft decking, we photograph it and write it up so you can send a supplement request to your insurer. The insurer decides.
Mortgage? ALDOI notes the structure payment may be made out to you and your lender, which may escrow it and pay as work is done (ALDOI).
5 business days to cancel
Got a written denial for all or part of the claim? You can cancel an insurance-paid roofing contract before midnight on the fifth business day.
Ala. Code §8-36-2(a)No payment until then
The roofer can't require payment until that window ends, except for emergency work you approved in writing.
Ala. Code §8-36-2(c)Licensed and bonded over $2,500
Residential roof work over $2,500 needs an HBLB license, including a $10,000 bond. Check any roofer at hblb.alabama.gov.
ALDOI alertUpgrades: Class 4 impact-resistant roofing is an option, not standard. Alabama insurers must offer a FORTIFIED Roof endorsement, for a premium, that pays to upgrade after a covered full replacement (IBHS, Act 2019-240). MAC is not FORTIFIED-certified; see our FORTIFIED guide. Financing: 0% APR offers for qualified buyers, subject to credit approval; terms vary (details).

What 35 Years of Storm Work Actually Teaches You
Stephen McDuffie started roofing in 1985 and founded MAC Construction in August 1991. About 20 years ago his crew was tarping roofs in Geneva, AL during a tornado while it was still storming. After 6,000+ roofs, the lesson: clear photos and an honest scope settle more questions than talk.
This is not a claim to be the best roofer around, just a promise to show you what's on your roof. The video is a real MAC Construction project.
“Our reputation is basically our marketing because we are local. This is the difference in local contractors and storm chasers.”Stephen McDuffie, founder, MAC Construction

Storm Chaser Warning Signs (and Your Deductible)
ALDOI warns that repair fraud is common after disasters: avoid aggressive contractors, up-front payment demands and rushed signatures (ALDOI).
- "We'll cover your deductible."That money comes from somewhere. Giving an insurer false claim information is fraud (Ala. Code §27-12A-2).
- "We handle the insurance."A residential roofer can't negotiate your claim in Alabama.
- Sign today or lose your spot.Pressure is a warning sign, not a service.
- Big payment up front.Pay as work is done, never before.
- No local address.Ask who answers the warranty call next year.
- No HBLB license.Look it up at hblb.alabama.gov, or use our license check guide.

Roof Claim Questions We Hear After Storms
Can MAC Construction talk to my insurance adjuster for me?
No. Alabama law bars a residential roofer from representing you or negotiating your claim. If you ask, we can be there when the adjuster inspects to point out damage we photographed.
Should I call my insurance company or a roofer first?
Report the damage to your insurer as soon as you can; most insurers have a reporting time limit. Booking our free inspection the same day is fine too.
How long do I have to file a roof insurance claim in Alabama?
Your policy sets the time limits, so check it or ask your agent. The Alabama Department of Insurance advises reporting as soon as possible.
Can a roofer pay or waive my deductible?
Not honestly. The deductible is your share of the loss. A roofer who covers it has to make the money up somewhere, and knowingly giving an insurer false claim information is insurance fraud in Alabama.
Does insurance cover roof replacement after a storm?
It can, when covered damage is bad enough. Standard policies exclude wear and tear, and older roofs may be paid at actual cash value. Your adjuster decides under your policy's terms.
Can I hire a public adjuster in Alabama?
Alabama does not license or recognize public adjusters. The Alabama State Bar treats negotiating a claim for an insured as practicing law, so for representation, talk to an Alabama-licensed attorney.
What if my insurer denies the claim after I sign a roofing contract?
You can cancel an insurance-paid residential roofing contract before midnight on the fifth business day after you receive the insurer's written notice that all or part of the claim isn't covered.
